In the most cases the first step in production of water-based paints is a dispersion process. This process influences important properties of the finished paint and is promoted by means of dispersing agents, principally polymer substances such as polyphosphates or polyacrylates. At first, this process is almost completely independent of binders because the aqueous solution mainly consists of fillers and pigments. Based systematically on the dispersant product groups used, this presentation describes how these dispersants are made and used. The effectiveness of the dispersants in the ready-to-use paint will also be evaluated according to test criteria.

DEGUSSA COATING
FLEXOBRITE™ C colour dispersions are high-strength, pourable pastes recommended for in-plant tinting of emulsion and water-based paints. All colourants have a 6 minimum fineness of grind Hegman Gauge (<20 µm) which make FLEXOBRITE™ C dispersions exceptionally suitable for the tinting of latex paints.

FLEXOBRITE™ C dispersions are cost-effective alternatives to commonly used, high-concentration aqueous dispersions containing high quality CI pigments that many paint formulating professionals want to use. Strength is controlled to ±2% vs. standard, E 0.6 vs. standard.

FLEXOBRITE™ C dispersions contain synergistic combinations of wetting and dispersing agents which allows them to mix readily into a variety of aqueous media and form stable dispersion in any ratio.

FLEXOBRITE™ C dispersions can be used in many types of emulsion products which require colouring such as:

DOW CHEMICALS
Cellosize hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) is a nonionic, water-soluble polymer that can thicken, suspend, bind, emulsify, form films, stabilize, disperse, retain water, and provide protective colloid action. It is readily soluble in hot or cold water and can be used to prepare solutions with a wide range of viscosities. It has outstanding tolerance for dissolved electrolytes. Cellosize hec offers narrow viscosity ranges, consistent viscosity reproducibility, and excellent solution clarities.
